Belated Criminal Minds finale thoughts:
Pigs. I may be turned off them for life. Not from eating them -- in fact, I feel a bit of zeal in the thought of some crispy fried bacon and ham. Just... not cute animals anymore. Not even remotely. Thanks, CM writers. Charlotte's Web has been officially ruined. Possibly Babe too.
Good case. And now it's CLEAR and put into canon that this season's theme of "no happy endings" is a deliberate choice by the writers, crafted into playing most of all into Hotch's deteriorating personal life and his mental frame of mind, all to culminate into that ending of "sometimes there is no ending quote..." speech, because the one that got away is back, and he wants to break the one person he couldn't break before.
The case that haunted Hotch from the beginning of his career, returning at the moment when Hotch was feeling that "of course this shit's gonna eat us alive, we're dealing with monsters all the time" depressed headspace.
Have I mentioned my love/hate relationship with cliffhangers before? I'm pretty sure I have.
But this one is kinda earned, in terms of paying off the season's theme of no happy endings. Crap. I must say, Hotch better survive this bastard, and BREAK HIM into a quivering pile of emasculated monster parts that are just BENEATH him because he really is 1) Just That Awesome, and 2) Just That Good at his job. And his job is stopping monsters. Period.
Because Happy Endings may not abound in this world, but eventually all monsters bite off more than they can chew, and they in turn get consumed by their own failings. Because Monsters too do not get a happy ending.
So there. :)
Is it next season yet? *bites nails*
I need a good Hotch icon, methinks. Hmm.
The weather's just about as perfect as one could wish for. I'm gonna spend some time baking in the sun this afternoon.
Also, I keep hearing this distant squee about some movie called... Star Trek? that I should probably get around to seeing? :)
But first, this weekend Terminator is on my watch list. Probably Monday sometime.
