Saw X-Men Origins: Wolverine yesterday:

Not a great movie (in terms of plotting and overuse of action movie cliches) but it was enjoyable. I'm glad I saw it. Hugh Jackman mmmmm....

While a couple of action sequences were overdone and took me out a little with the CG, there were other sequences that were just plain cool. And I was surprised to like the helicopter one as much as I did -- judging from the trailer I expected it to be a total groaner, but it played far better than I expected and really, anytime we get to see Wolverine just unleash his claws and carve the living shit out of everything in reach, topping it with at payback's a bitch explosion to really REALLY make sure everyone's dead... Hee!

I also liked the Sabretooth/brothers thing quite a bit. And even the romance.

So... not a perfect movie by any means, and I probably benefit just as much from being unfamiliar with the comics in regards to the multitude of mutants that showed up, because I could just enjoy them for what they were instead of bemoaning any changes...

Yeah. I'll be in line for more X-Men, Hollywood. Just... trust the audience a WEE bit more. This series CAN elevate beyond the cliche, so walk that line with a bit more finesse.

House season finale last night:

Oh dear. That was crap. Sorry, but it just was bad. I think the writers have played this card with House a few too many times and instead of writing it even to the same standards as in the past a'la No Reason (which was FANTASTIC), it just fizzled and made no sense. Um. Okay. So House checks into a psyche ward. And C/C get married.

Just...Ugh. The only part I actually liked was the patient with the "evil" hand and the one conversation C/C had about what Cameron's real problem was: letting go.

First Heroes with the crappy finale, then this.

On the upside: Castle last night had a far superior finale. And this is the show that's supposed to be cheeseball fluff, not to be taken seriously. But its characters just projected a sense of emotional truth that I buy. (House writers: please feel free to take a note. Less is more. Restraint is a good thing.) Castle doing his Dad Duty on Prom night -- it's just plain awesome and sweet. And the internal conflict of should he/shouldn't he poke his nose in Beckett's mother's murder? And what will be the consequences of this meddling?

THAT's a finale done right.
