SPN 4.21 When the Levee Breaks

You know how when you’ve been expecting the worst and expecting things to go to hell and expecting the Boys’ relationship to break/hit rock bottom and expecting Sam to embrace his Anti-Christ Superstar status and expecting Dean to not handle it well and expecting the other shoe to drop with the angels...

It’s kind of a relief when it finally all happens. Like – yeah. Saw this coming, it hurts a lot and is very uncomfortable to watch, but since it’s been telegraphed all season that things were headed this way I’m actually glad it finally hit. Get it over with, deal with the fallout (presumably next week), and then next year FIX WHAT GOT BROKEN, yes?

Sam, the self-delusional tool.

Dean, the self-aware tool.

A tool is a tool, no higher ground there between them, really.

But one thing – Dean found his line in the sand. Dear angels: yes, you’re using Sam to manipulate Dean exactly where you want him. And you want him to be as obedient to you as he was with his Father. Umm… I suspect that that just might end up backfiring in some way on you. Maybe not today or even next week, but eventually. Because actually Dean wasn’t the perfectly obedient son all the time. Just up to the point where he agreed with Dear Old Dad. Which was most of the time, to be honest, but not all the time. Ah well, time will tell, I guess. I do think the wording of Dean’s “vow/promise” just may come into play in creating a loophole. Freewill and all that, Dickhead Angels.

Sam. Your relationship with your brother has hit rock bottom but you have not, not yet. That day is coming fast, I suspect. Dean didn’t handle things well, but honestly there was NO right way he could have handled you, because until you are ready to admit that you need help you cannot BE helped. I look forward to your redemption arc next year and hope you put as much effort into rebuilding what you spent a year destroying, both with Dean AND with yourself. I want to see you have some hope again and some fight for the right things, not a suicide run because you’ve given up. You’ve got a long way to climb up, but I have faith that you can. If you’ll try.

*girds self up*

Next week: Bring it on, Kripke. I’m ready.
